Early Republic “Flower Design” ovoid taza plate. Taza plates have a tall foot.
This plate is exceptionally thin a sign of quality. The rim of this piece is
scalloped in a lotus form. The bowl interior is decorated with blue, red, green
and yellow flowers surrounded by colorful foliage. This medallion decoration is
surrounded by two red lines. The rim is bordered in yellow, red, purple and
green flowers. The underside of the rim is decorated with alternating deep red
stylized bats and red peaches. The foot exterior is decorated in a grass design
over and underlain with red lines. Great bubbly surfaces, a sign of a wood
firing. The base is marked with a red stamp “CHINA”. This piece was probably
made in the late 1910s. A large great example from the late Qing Dynasty.
The jar has no
chips, cracks or hairlines. The edges are rough but this is an artifact of the
pieces production. A piece in great condition and about as close to original
production as they come.
